
São Paulo born and New York based guitarist/composer, Vinicius Gomes explores the dialogue between modern jazz and Brazilian music, as registered on "Resiliência" (2017- Blackstream), "Changes" (2020-FreshSound - in collaboration with saxophonist Santi De la Rubia featuring drummer Jorge Rossy and bassist Doug Weiss), "Home" (2022- Greenleaf - in duo with singer Song Yi Jeon), and the most recent “Boundless Species” (2026-La Reserve - in collaboration with singer Jamile and bassist Joe Martin). His next solo album is scheduled for 2026 with special guest Toninho Horta, plus John Patitucci, Julian Shore, Rogerio Boccato and others.
The project "Home" has been critically acclaimed by publications such as Downbeat magazine (4.5 stars - "Home glows from within and impresses on multiple levels. A powerful empathetic link binds SongYi Jeon and Vinicius Gomes as they explore a near perfect example of a duet project" - Josef Woodard). The album was picked "Jazz album of the year 22" by Star Revue magazine.
His career includes collaborations as a guitarist and composer with multiple artists: Grammy Award winner drummer Edu Ribeiro, recording the albums “Caipora”(2025, featuring saxophonist Seamus Blake) and "News"(2022), Mexican singer/composer Magos Herrera, recording "Aire" featuring The Knights Orchestra (2023), drummer Duduka da Fonseca, recording "Quarteto Universal" (2022), Cuban singer/multiinstrumentalist Melvis Santa, recording “Jazz Orishas” feat. Marcus Gilmore, Rashaan Carter and Josh evans, Argentinian bassist Sebastian Urquiza, recording “Dos Orillas” feat Leo Genovese and Rudy Royston, Guillermo Klein quintet, Jon Cowherd, Toninho Ferragutti (recording the Brazilian Music award winner “A Gata Café”), legendary singer Zizi Possi (as a guitarist and musical director), Arthur Verocai, São Paulo State Symphony (OSESP) and many others. Vinicius is featured as a collaborator in more than 40 records by artists from all over the world.
Vinicius was part of the Focus Year Program in Basel- Switzerland (2028-2019). The group won the 2019 Keep an Eye Award in Amsterdam. With Focus year he had the opportunity to perform with Ambrose Akinmusire, Billy Childs, Dave Liebman, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Julian Lage, Norma Winstone and many others. Vinícius possesses a masters degree from the University of São Paulo (2012) and an Artist diploma from New York University (2020).
He has been performing extensively worldwide, in venues such as Carnegie Hall (NY), Lincoln Center (NY), Kennedy Center (Washington), festivals such as Newport Jazz, Winter Jazz Fest (NY), Jarasum Fest (Korea), Vienna Jazz (Austria), Offbeat (Switzerland), Sunfest (Canada), Riviera Maya Jazz (Mexico), Merida Jazz (Mexico), Savassi Jazz (Brazil), Ilhabela in Jazz (Brazil), Festival de Jazz de Buenos Aires (Argentina) and venues like Dizzy’s Club(NY), Bimhuis (Amsterdam), Smalls(NY), Jazz Gallery(NY), Duc Des Lombards (Paris), Bellas Artes (Mexico City) and many others.
